Context:
The Commerce and business sector by nature is very dynamic. The subject is ever evolving. To cope with this the students need to be competent enough. This can be made possible by following regularly the current trends and scenarios in commerce and business sector. Since mere bookish knowledge won’t suffice for employability. The Department of commerce regularly imparts the necessary knowledge on the current topics through conducting of quiz competitions regularly.
The practice:
The faculty of the Department of Commerce regularly follows newspapers, particularly the business pages, commerce and business magazines. Based on these resources, questions are prepared and quiz competitions are held every week. The questions are prepared in such a way that the students can gain competent knowledge for banking, competitive exams, entrepreneurship, marketing and employability. The questions are prepared in 3 different levels i.e easy, moderate and hard. The Department sees to it that the questions are covered from all relevant and current topics. The winning teams are given prizes to encourage the practice of regular reading in them.
Problems Encountered And Resources Required:
The collection and compilation of questions for the quiz was a little tricky because the questions range from general in nature to the most advanced. Since the quiz is for UG-level students, the department had to work out on choosing the relevant topics. The library of the college was useful for implementing this practice.
