The College has started functioning in the academic year 1984-85 with conventional B.A. and B.Com Courses in the premises of Government Junior College, Narsipatnam and subsequently permanent Buildings were constructed with the Funds of the state Government. The College has been given 2f & 12B Status in 1993 and has been receiving UGC Funds in X, XI and XII Five Year Plans. Even though the funds sanctioned by the August Body are very high, a shortage of funds is still felt by the College, particularly in terms of Physical and material Infrastructure.
Two Restructured B.Sc. Courses –M.P.CS are C.B.BT. started functioning since 1995 and 2007 respectively with the financial assistance of the state Government and the UGC. Library, Gymanasium and Jawahar Knowledge Centre came into being in the progress of the College. Recently, Women’s Hostel has been sanctioned by the UGC and the work is in progress.
The college has further started functioning two additional conventional courses (i.e. B. Sc (M.P.C) and B. Sc (C.B. Z)) with effect from the academic year 2015-16.
The college has been accredited with B grade in 2015 (Cycle-2) by NAAC. Earlier the college was accredited with B+ grade in 2006
Most of the students of the college belong to SC, ST and OBC Categories and their average income is less than Rs.1,00,000/- Per Annum and they are heavily dependent upon Social Welfare measures and academic assistance from the college only.
The college needs renovation of laboratories, library and departments for the courses of B. Sc (MPC) and B. Sc (CBZ) started from 2015-16.
